Job Overview: The Programme Analyst for Population and Development at UNFPA is responsible for identifying and formulating country programmes and component projects related to population and development. This role involves compiling and analyzing relevant information, drafting project proposals, and implementing initiatives in collaboration with local stakeholders. The analyst will evaluate project activities, assess results, and recommend corrective actions as necessary. The position requires a systematic approach to project implementation, ensuring collaboration with executing agencies and government counterparts. The analyst will also contribute to knowledge sharing by documenting findings and best practices, and will analyze the political, social, and economic environment to identify opportunities for UNFPA's assistance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in the identification and formulation of the country programme and component projects on population and development.
Compile and analyze information, including statistical data, to draft concept notes and project proposals.
Implement initiatives in population and development, collaborating with local stakeholders and supervising consultants.
Evaluate project and programme activities, establishing mechanisms for systematic assessment of results.
Conduct field visits and participate in review meetings and evaluation missions, preparing regular inputs for status and progress reports.
Analyze factors affecting results and recommend corrective actions.
Coordinate project implementation and establish collaborative relationships with executing agencies and UN partners.
Synthesize and document findings, success stories, and best practices for dissemination.
Undertake additional duties as requested by the supervisor or representative.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate accountability, adaptability, creativity, judgment, decision-making, planning, organizing, professionalism, and self-management. These competencies are essential for effectively navigating the challenges of working in a complex humanitarian environment.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in social sciences, public health, international development, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees are preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in population and development, project management, or related fields. Experience working in humanitarian settings or with UN agencies is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the socio-political context of Yemen.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset and may be beneficial for effective communication within the local context.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Yemen, which is currently classified as an L3 crisis country. Travel to Sana’a is facilitated by UNHAS flights, and international staff are required to reside in United Nations Common Accommodation Facility (UNCAF). The role involves working in a challenging environment, requiring flexibility and cultural awareness. Compensation includes a monthly living allowance of $2392.15, a one-time entry lump sum of $4000, annual and learning leaves, and free medical and life insurance.
