Job Overview:
The Exhibition Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in the design and delivery of scientific exhibitions at CERN. This position involves transforming complex scientific content into engaging and accessible narratives that can be understood by diverse audiences. The coordinator will work closely with scientists, creative teams, and external partners to create immersive experiences that effectively communicate scientific concepts. The role requires managing exhibition projects from conception to realization, ensuring that all aspects of the exhibitions meet high standards of quality and safety. The coordinator will also be responsible for integrating sustainability, accessibility, and inclusion principles throughout the exhibition lifecycle, making science accessible to all.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties of the Exhibition Project Coordinator include:
  • Contributing to the design and delivery of scientific exhibitions by collaborating with scientists and creative teams.
  • Translating complex scientific content into accessible narratives and interactive experiences.
  • Coordinating all aspects of exhibition projects, including documentation, tenders, production, installation, and dismantling.
  • Ensuring the quality, maintenance, safety, and conservation of exhibits over time.
  • Assisting in the coordination of object loans and applying preventive conservation and safety standards.
  • Evaluating and renewing exhibitions based on audience feedback and documentation.
  • Co-managing a small team responsible for the exhibitions, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Museum Studies, Cultural Heritage Management, Art History, Museography, Science Communication, or a related scientific field. Additionally, candidates should have solid professional experience in exhibition development or museography, preferably within science, technology, or cultural institutions. Experience in addressing diverse audiences, from school children to adults, is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in exhibition design, interpretation, and spatial storytelling, particularly for non-specialist audiences.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as Museum Studies, Cultural Heritage Management, Art History, Museography, Science Communication, or a related scientific discipline is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of exhibition design and the communication of scientific concepts to a broad audience.

Experience:
Candidates should have substantial professional experience in exhibition development or museography, ideally within science, technology, or cultural institutions. This experience should include managing and contributing to interactive and multimedia exhibition projects, as well as working in multidisciplinary environments that require coordination of creative, technical, and production inputs. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is crucial.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the other language. Proficiency in both languages will enhance communication with diverse teams and audiences, making it easier to convey complex scientific ideas effectively.

Additional Notes:
The position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract tenure. The job requires a commitment to working 40 hours per week, fully onsite, and may involve working during nights, Sundays, and official holidays as required by the needs of the organization.
