Job Overview:
The WFP Egypt Country Office is seeking experienced online volunteers to assist in enhancing the English language skills of its employees. This role is crucial as it aims to improve communication and reporting quality among staff who regularly engage with international stakeholders and colleagues across the UN system. Volunteers will work with WFP employees grouped by their English proficiency levels—beginner, intermediate, and upper-intermediate—based on a pre-assessment. The primary objective is to empower WFP staff to communicate more effectively, collaborate confidently, and represent the organization’s work with greater impact. Volunteers will design and deliver customized learning experiences that focus on practical language use in workplace contexts, ensuring that participants achieve a measurable improvement in their English communication skills by at least 30% by the end of the assignment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a pre-assessment to evaluate the current English proficiency of assigned participants and use the results to inform course design and group placement.
  • Develop or adapt learning materials tailored to the group’s level and professional needs, focusing on practical language use in workplace contexts such as meetings, email writing, and presentations.
  • Facilitate two interactive weekly classes (1 hour each) via online platforms, ensuring sessions are engaging, inclusive, and aligned with learning objectives.
  • Incorporate group discussions, role plays, case studies, and real-world scenarios to enhance engagement and retention.
  • Provide short, practical assignments or exercises for participants to complete between sessions and offer feedback and guidance to reinforce learning.
  • Administer a post-assessment to measure progress and identify areas for continued improvement, providing detailed feedback to participants.
  • Collaborate closely with WFP HR focal points to monitor progress, adjust content as needed, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.

Required Qualifications:
Volunteers should possess strong English language skills, with a focus on teaching or tutoring experience. They should have the ability to design engaging and effective learning materials tailored to different proficiency levels. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to facilitate online learning sessions effectively. Familiarity with virtual teaching tools and platforms is also required, along with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all participants.

Educational Background:
A background in education, linguistics, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with certifications in English language teaching or tutoring will be given priority. Experience in adult education or professional development training is also advantageous, as it aligns with the goals of this volunteer position.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in teaching or tutoring English as a second language, particularly in a professional or organizational context. Experience working with diverse groups and adapting teaching methods to meet varying needs and proficiency levels is highly desirable. Familiarity with online teaching platforms and virtual classroom management will enhance the effectiveness of the volunteer's contributions.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as the role focuses on improving English language proficiency. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly Arabic, would be considered an asset, as it may facilitate better communication with participants and enhance the learning experience.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position with a flexible commitment, requiring approximately two hours per week for teaching sessions and additional time for preparation and feedback. The role is remote, allowing volunteers to work from anywhere. The duration of the assignment is not specified, but it is expected to last until the goals of the program are achieved. Volunteers will gain valuable experience in teaching and professional development while contributing to the mission of the World Food Programme.
