Job Overview: The position of Adolescent Education for Health and Well-being Community and Engagement Consultant is crucial for overseeing the operations of the Connect and Learn initiative, which is part of UNESCO's Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future (O3) and O3 PLUS programmes. These programmes aim to enhance health and well-being among adolescents and young people in sub-Saharan Africa by providing them with essential knowledge and skills. The consultant will be responsible for managing the Community of Practice (CoP) that connects educators and stakeholders to share experiences, resources, and support related to adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (ASRHR). The role requires a strategic approach to community management, ensuring that the CoP aligns with ASRHR goals and fosters inclusive participation. The consultant will also facilitate knowledge sharing, track the impact of community activities, and support the professional development of educators in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Community Management & Life Cycle: Understand the CoP's purpose and structure, review past reports, engage with regional teams to identify needs, and develop strategies for effective management. Build membership through outreach and support the monitoring and evaluation of the teacher database. Organize events, manage content creation, and analyze metrics to inform improvements.
Engagement & Trust: Facilitate member interactions, promote discussions, and foster a sense of belonging through multimedia channels. Build trust through responsive support and effective communication.
Knowledge Sharing & Impact Tracking: Facilitate ongoing knowledge exchanges, curate resources, and implement a monitoring and evaluation plan to measure progress and impact.
Community Moderation & Safeguarding: Maintain a safe community by enforcing guidelines and addressing challenges related to ASRHR.
Country-Contextualization & Support: Update country teams on CoP activities and support country-level professional development for teachers.
Partnerships & Strategic Collaboration: Explore partnerships to enhance the CoP and integrate mental health support into activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in public health, education, communications, social sciences, or a related field. They should have at least 5 years of experience focusing on ASRHR, health, gender, education, or related areas, with a proven track record in convening discussions on sensitive topics. Additionally, candidates should have 3 years of experience in managing online communities and demonstrate proficiency in digital community management, including familiarity with platforms like WhatsApp and webinar tools. Strong digital skills for content curation, event hosting, and data analysis are essential, along with experience in multimedia tools and email marketing platforms.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in public health, education, communications, social sciences, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of adolescent health and education, as well as the skills needed for effective communication and community engagement.
Experience: The position requires at least 5 years of relevant experience, particularly in areas related to adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights, health, gender, and education. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing discussions on sensitive topics such as reproductive rights and gender equity. Additionally, 3 years of experience in managing online communities is essential, along with demonstrated experience in digital community management and proficiency in various digital platforms.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication is crucial for engaging with community members and stakeholders. Additionally, knowledge of regional languages such as Swahili, French, or Portuguese is desirable, as it can enhance communication with diverse groups in the region.
