A successful completion of the United Nations exam for translators is desirable. Essential qualifications include at least seven years of professional experience in translating from English to Chinese, particularly in technical or legal contexts, and experience in revising the work of other translators. Familiarity with computer-assisted translation tools is also essential, along with a strong understanding of the relevant subject matter.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a first-level degree from a recognized university or equivalent institution, with a focus on translation or languages. Additional qualifications, such as training in conference interpreting, are considered advantageous but not mandatory.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of professional experience in translation, specifically from English to Chinese. This experience should ideally include work in a government, large-scale private organization, or international organization. Experience in revising translations and familiarity with technical or legal texts is essential for success in this role.
Languages: The incumbent must have a complete command of Chinese, either as a mother tongue or as the language of education, along with a thorough knowledge of English. A good command of one of the other official languages of the Organization (Arabic, French, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable but not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This position is offered on a fixed-term basis for an initial period of three years, with the first year being probationary for external candidates. ICAO staff members are expected to adhere to the Standards of Conduct for the International Civil Service and may be assigned to various activities or offices within the organization. The remuneration for this position includes a net base salary of USD $86,027 per annum, plus a post adjustment of USD $32,518 per annum, which is subject to change.
