Job Overview: The Crops and Extension Specialist position is crucial for the successful implementation of various projects aimed at enhancing agricultural practices and food security in Zimbabwe. The specialist will coordinate activities related to sustainable soil management, water resource management, and agricultural policy operationalization. Duties and Responsibilities: The Crops and Extension Specialist will undertake a variety of tasks including: coordinating field activities under the Capacity Development on Sustainable Soil Management project; serving as the national focal point for the National Water Roadmap project; providing technical support to the Zimbabwe Resilience Building Fund and Emergency Food Production projects; leading procurement processes for project-related goods and services; ensuring compliance with contractual obligations; producing project progress reports in accordance with donor requirements; and engaging in direct implementation of technical activities as needed. The specialist will also be responsible for resource mobilization and monitoring project processes to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in agricultural or development studies or a related field. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in agriculture, project coordination, or management is required. Additionally, candidates must have a working knowledge of English at level C and must be nationals of Zimbabwe. The role requires strong analytical and writing skills, as well as effective communication and advocacy abilities. Familiarity with FAO tools and procedures for project implementation is considered an asset, along with knowledge of local socio-economic conditions in rural Zimbabwe.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in agricultural or development studies or a related field is mandatory for this position. The FAO emphasizes the importance of higher educational qualifications obtained from accredited institutions recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
