Duties and Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the Research Software Engineer include:
Building solutions to analyze streamed data in real-time using C++.
Developing and maintaining C++ data structures within the ROOT framework for financial data analysis.
Collaborating on a ROOT-based framework for analyzing limit order book data.
Applying statistical data analysis techniques from particle physics to financial data.
Working closely with financial institutions to customize software solutions to meet their specific needs and support the deployment process.
Engaging in collaborative efforts with diverse teams to ensure the successful integration of software tools into financial workflows.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in software development, particularly in building data analysis libraries using C++ and Python. A solid understanding of data analysis principles and domain knowledge in either particle physics or finance is essential. Experience with large codebase open-source projects is highly desirable. Proficiency in Git and CMake is required, while knowledge of ROOT and web technologies such as React or Next.js is considered a plus. Strong spoken and written English skills are mandatory, along with a commitment to learning French.
Educational Background: Applicants should have a professional background in Physics, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field. The educational requirements include either a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. Candidates must not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have relevant professional experience in software development and data analysis, with a preference for those who have worked on projects related to particle physics or finance. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing software solutions and collaborating on complex projects, demonstrating the ability to work effectively within diverse teams.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Candidates should also be committed to learning French, which is considered beneficial for effective communication within the organization and with external partners.
Additional Notes: This position is a hybrid role with a contract duration of 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the role may require work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays as needed by the organization. The compensation includes a monthly stipend ranging from 6372 to 7004 Swiss Francs (tax-free), 30 days of paid leave per year, comprehensive health insurance coverage, family allowances, and a relocation package depending on individual circumstances.
