Job Overview: The Education Officer position at UNICEF involves providing technical support and assistance for effective planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of various educational interventions under the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) grants. The role requires collaboration with government ministries, education authorities, and partner agencies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in Bangladesh. The Education Officer will support government counterparts in advancing teacher professionalization initiatives and contribute to broader education system strengthening efforts. This includes providing technical, operational, and analytical support to ensure effective program implementation and sustained capacity development at both national and institutional levels. The position is crucial for improving learning outcomes among children in Bangladesh and requires a strong commitment to the mission of UNICEF.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support to Programme Development and Planning: Assist in the development and planning of educational programs aligned with GPE grants.
Programme Management, Monitoring and Delivery of Results: Oversee the management and monitoring of educational programs to ensure delivery of results.
Technical and Operational Support to Programme Implementation: Provide necessary technical and operational support for the effective implementation of educational initiatives.
Networking and Partnership Building: Build and maintain partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies and educational institutions.
Innovation, Knowledge Management and Capacity Building: Foster innovation in educational practices and contribute to knowledge management and capacity building efforts within the education sector.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in education, social sciences, development studies, or other relevant technical fields. A minimum of two years of professional experience in education planning and management is required, along with experience in managing GPE grants. Technical understanding of GPE mechanisms and education sector planning is essential. Experience working with education authorities and development partners is desirable, and relevant experience in a UN system agency is considered an asset. Familiarity with UNICEF’s HACT framework and partnership management is also advantageous.
Educational Background: A university degree in one of the following fields is required: education, social sciences, development studies, or other relevant technical fields. Higher educational qualifications must be obtained from institutions accredited or recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in education planning and management. Experience in managing GPE grants and a technical understanding of education sector planning and coordination are essential. Relevant experience in primary and secondary education, particularly in teacher professionalization and development, is an advantage. Experience with UNICEF’s HACT framework and partnership management is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
