Job Overview:

The role involves implementing and assessing security measures, maintaining security equipment, and providing updates and recommendations to facilitate informed decision-making. The Security Officer will be responsible for reviewing security threats and risks, compiling reports, and coordinating with local authorities and law enforcement to ensure safe program delivery. This position requires a proactive approach to security management, including planning field missions, conducting security assessments, and advising senior management on security risk management matters. The Security Officer will also deliver training to staff and develop emergency and contingency planning documentation to prepare for potential crises.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review security threats and risks in detail and compile accurate reports on trends and situations that could adversely impact WFP operations.
  • Analyze security-related information and produce a range of analyses and in-depth reports for relevant stakeholders.
  • Liaise and coordinate with local administration, security, and law enforcement authorities to facilitate access for safe program delivery.
  • Plan and coordinate staff activities during field missions and perform security assessments.
  • Analyze security assessment reports and present recommendations for risk mitigation.
  • Advise the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director on security risk management matters and safety issues.
  • Support the implementation of risk management mitigation measures, including Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS).
  • Manage and maintain security equipment and recommend improvements.

  • Deliver security training to staff and assess training needs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area and have completed secondary school education. Additionally, candidates should have sound knowledge of security operations and technical processes, with experience in providing guidance and training to staff. A broad understanding of security logistics, risk assessment, and coordination with local authorities is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to manage emergency situations, maintain attention to detail, and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding security advisories and incidents.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in a related functional area is also required, which indicates a foundational understanding of security operations and related processes.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of six years of progressively responsible work experience in a relevant business stream, with a focus on general administrative work. This experience should include a background in security operations, risk assessment, and coordination with local authorities, demonstrating the ability to handle complex security situations effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with a requirement for level C proficiency. Depending on the location of the post, fluency or intermediate knowledge of another official UN language may also be required. For field positions, fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station is necessary, along with proficiency in the local language if it differs from the UN language.
