Job Overview: The Project Assistant (Operations) position is integral to the successful implementation of the 'Helios+: Comprehensive actions for the integration of third-country nationals into the labour market' project in the Region of East Macedonia and Thrace. The successful candidate will work closely with national and local authorities, as well as experienced partners, to facilitate the integration of beneficiaries of international protection into Greek society. This role involves providing interpretation and translation services, assisting beneficiaries in accessing various services, and fostering relationships with stakeholders to ensure effective project execution. The Project Assistant will also be responsible for maintaining communication with beneficiaries, addressing their needs, and reporting any issues to the Project Assistant (Operations). The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to supporting the integration process through various activities, including language courses and vocational training.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide interpretation and translation services to beneficiaries, ensuring clear communication and understanding.
Establish initial contact with beneficiaries, building relationships based on respect and trust.
Respond to calls received on the project’s helpline, identifying issues and reporting them to the Project Assistant (Operations).
Maintain a helpline tracker to record calls and issues raised.
Develop and sustain good relations with beneficiaries, stakeholders, and other humanitarian actors to facilitate project activities.
Identify gaps and barriers that prevent beneficiaries from accessing available services.
Translate documents and informational materials for dissemination to project beneficiaries.
Assist in mediation activities in collaboration with IOM staff, ensuring objectivity and impartiality.
Provide general assistance to project staff during activities in HELIOS+ Centers and other locations as required. 1
Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
High school degree/certificate with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience.
A university degree from an accredited academic institution is an advantage.
Previous work experience in a similar role is required.
Experience working in a multi-cultural environment is preferred.
A valid driver’s license with at least five years of driving experience is considered an advantage.
Strong work ethics and a commitment to humanitarian principles are essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess at least a high school degree or certificate, with a preference for those holding a university degree from an accredited institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. The educational background should align with the responsibilities of the position, emphasizing the importance of relevant training and knowledge in humanitarian work and project management.
Experience: The position requires previous work experience in a similar role, ideally within a humanitarian or non-profit context. Candidates should have experience working in a multi-cultural environment, demonstrating the ability to navigate diverse cultural dynamics and effectively communicate with individuals from various backgrounds. Experience in project implementation and support roles will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English and Greek is mandatory, both oral and written. Additionally, fluency in Arabic is required. Candidates with additional working knowledge of Sorani and Kurmanji will be considered an asset. Proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. IOM's official languages are English, French, and Spanish, and knowledge of these languages may also be advantageous.
