Job Overview:
The (Senior) Industry Specialist (Mining Engineer/Metallurgist) position at IFC involves contributing to the strategic planning and execution of IFC's involvement in the Minerals & Metals sector. The role requires a solid technical background and sound business judgment to support the growth of the business. The successful candidate will participate in new business development, investment appraisal, and portfolio supervision activities, while staying updated on industry trends and producing research articles. This position is crucial for identifying investment opportunities, meeting client needs, and managing assets, all while promoting sustainable development outcomes. The role is based in Washington, DC, and reports to the Director/Manager for Minerals & Metals Strategic Themes & PCM, Infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will work closely with the Minerals & Metals team and the Principal Industry Specialist. Key responsibilities include: screening, appraising, and supervising metals and mining projects at various stages; developing business strategies for target commodities and regions; participating in business development to build a strong pipeline of investment opportunities; assessing the technical and commercial merits of projects; recruiting and supervising Lenders' Independent Engineering firms; assisting in portfolio management through monitoring and supervision of financed projects; ensuring technical risks are captured in financial models; collaborating with environmental and social development specialists; working on climate mitigation solutions; and contributing to knowledge management by compiling and disseminating relevant sector knowledge.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a graduate degree in engineering or metallurgy (or a related discipline) with a focus on mining, mineral processing, smelting, and refining. A broad experience of at least 10 years in the metals and mining and metallurgical industry is required, with a deep understanding of the interface between technology, operations management, and financial viability of projects. Expertise in areas such as ore resources/reserves, mining techniques, mine planning, and environmental considerations is essential. Excellent communication skills in English are mandatory, and fluency in additional languages is a plus. Computer literacy is also required, and prior experience in appraising metals and mining investments for a bank or investment fund is advantageous.

Educational Background:
The position requires a graduate degree in engineering or metallurgy, or a related discipline, with an emphasis on mining, mineral processing, smelting, and refining. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of the role and for making informed decisions regarding investment opportunities in the Minerals & Metals sector.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of broad experience in the metals and mining and metallurgical industry. Languages:
