Job Overview: The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Senior Director, ERD, is a pivotal member of the Technical Excellence Leadership Team and the Senior Leadership Group, responsible for advancing IRC’s vision for economic well-being across various contexts including crisis, recovery, and post-crisis development. This role involves providing strategic direction and thought leadership for IRC’s global Economic Recovery and Development (ERD) portfolio, driving innovation and integration across programs, policy, and partnerships. The Senior Director will partner with regional and country leadership to ensure that technical assistance and program delivery are contextually relevant and impactful. The position requires collaboration across departments to ensure that IRC’s program models are evidence-based and outcome-driven, influencing resource allocation at a global level. The Senior Director will lead the ERD Technical Unit, setting a strategic vision that aligns with organizational priorities and promotes IRC as a thought leader in economic recovery and development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic and Thought Leadership: Define and communicate a compelling strategic vision for IRC’s Economic Wellbeing portfolio, identifying core competencies and new opportunities for influence and growth. Serve as IRC’s principal thought leader in the ERD space, shaping global dialogue on economic recovery and financial inclusion. Advance evidence-based practices through rigorous research and innovation.
External Representation, Influence, and Fundraising: Represent IRC at high levels, engaging with donors and policymakers to influence global agendas. Lead strategic fundraising efforts and position IRC as a trusted advisor for effective ERD interventions.
Organizational Leadership and Change Management: Act as a visible member of the Senior Leadership Group, contributing to accountable leadership and organizational decision-making. Drive organizational change within the ERD Technical Unit, ensuring responsiveness to evolving strategic and financial realities.
Business Stewardship and Operational Excellence: Ensure strategic alignment and disciplined management of ERD resources, including financial oversight and grants management. Partner with other units to improve efficiency and impact measurement.
Talent Leadership: Recruit and develop top technical talent, fostering a learning culture that encourages innovation and collaboration across IRC’s global teams.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in Economics, Development Studies, Public Policy, or a related field. A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in international development or economic recovery is required, with substantial experience in humanitarian and post-crisis settings. Demonstrated success in strategic leadership, external representation, and fundraising is essential. Candidates should have deep connections across the economic wellbeing, humanitarian, and development sectors, along with a proven record of driving change and leading complex global teams.
Educational Background: The position requires a Master’s degree in a relevant field, with a PhD preferred. This educational background should provide a strong foundation in economic principles, development strategies, and public policy frameworks necessary for effective leadership in economic recovery and development.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, demonstrating progressively responsible roles in international development, economic recovery, or related fields. Experience in humanitarian and post-crisis settings is crucial, along with a proven track record of strategic leadership and successful fundraising efforts.
Languages: Excellent spoken and written English is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages such as French, Arabic, or Spanish is preferred, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: The role may require travel up to 25% of the time. Compensation varies based on location, with specific pay ranges provided for US, Switzerland, and UK candidates.
