Job Overview:
The Plumbing Maintenance Technician position is crucial for ensuring the proper functioning of plumbing systems within the UNDP office in Guinea-Bissau. The technician will be responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, and installations of plumbing systems, including water supply and drainage systems. The role requires a proactive approach to identify potential issues before they escalate, ensuring that all plumbing systems are compliant with safety and environmental regulations. The technician will also be expected to maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and report any significant findings to the management. This position is essential for maintaining a safe and functional working environment for all UNDP staff and visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Plumbing Maintenance Technician include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting regular inspections of plumbing systems to identify and address any issues.
  • Performing routine maintenance on plumbing fixtures, pipes, and drainage systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Responding promptly to plumbing emergencies, such as leaks or blockages, and executing repairs as needed.
  • Installing new plumbing systems and fixtures in accordance with local codes and regulations.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including materials used and time spent on each task.
  • Collaborating with other maintenance staff to ensure comprehensive facility upkeep.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations in all plumbing work.
  • Providing recommendations for improvements or upgrades to existing plumbing systems.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Plumbing Maintenance Technician position must possess the following qualifications:
  • Proven experience in plumbing maintenance and repair work, preferably in a commercial or institutional setting.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, fixtures, and relevant codes and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings related to plumbing systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with colleagues and management.
  • A valid plumbing certification or license is preferred but not mandatory.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for the Plumbing Maintenance Technician position. Additional vocational training or certification in plumbing or a related field is highly desirable. Candidates with formal training in plumbing systems and maintenance will be given preference during the selection process.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in plumbing maintenance and repair. Experience working in a facility management role or within a similar organizational context is advantageous. Familiarity with the specific plumbing needs of institutional or governmental facilities is a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, as it is the official language of Guinea-Bissau. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international staff and stakeholders.
