Job Overview: The Copywriter and Editor Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) Communications Team by producing key publications and providing professional editing and proofreading services. The consultant will be responsible for crafting high-quality written materials, including publications and articles, while also reviewing and refining documents created by other team members. This position is vital for ensuring that the SWA Secretariat can effectively communicate its goals and initiatives to a wide audience, thereby enhancing the visibility and impact of its work in the field of sanitation and water. The consultant will work remotely, allowing for flexibility while contributing to a global partnership aimed at improving water supply and sanitation resources.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's primary duties will include:
Writing and editing publications, articles, and reports related to sanitation and water issues.
Collaborating with the SWA Communications Team to develop content that aligns with the organization's goals and messaging.
Ensuring all written materials meet high standards of quality and clarity, suitable for advocacy and international development contexts.
Conducting thorough proofreading of documents to eliminate errors and enhance readability.
Engaging with stakeholders to gather information and insights that will inform the writing process.
Adhering to deadlines and managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
Providing feedback and recommendations for improving the overall communication strategy of the SWA.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in communications, journalism, or creative writing. They should demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with a proven track record of producing publication-quality outputs. Experience in report writing and editing for advocacy or international development organizations is essential. Familiarity with sanitation and water-related topics is considered an asset. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and self-motivated professional with strong diplomatic skills, capable of working both independently and collaboratively within multicultural teams.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in international relations, Public Relations, English Language or Literature, Communications, Journalism, or Creative Writing is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of communication in the context of international development and advocacy.
Experience: The position requires a substantial level of experience, specifically a minimum of 10 years in relevant fields such as communications, journalism, or creative writing. This extensive experience is crucial for ensuring that the consultant can produce high-quality written materials and effectively contribute to the SWA's communication efforts.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as the consultant will be required to produce and edit documents in English. While not mandatory, proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the regions in which UNICEF operates.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is set to last from 1 March 2026 to 15 December 2026, and it is a remote position, allowing for flexibility in work location.
