Job Overview:
The Driver position at IOM Mendi involves providing essential transport and logistical support to ensure the smooth implementation of programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving IOM vehicles, ensuring the safety and timely arrival of passengers, and maintaining the vehicles in accordance with organizational policies. This role requires a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance, record-keeping, and adherence to safety protocols. The driver will also be expected to handle deliveries and collections of supplies and documents, while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions. The position demands flexibility in working hours and a commitment to the organization's values and mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Driver include:
  • Driving IOM office vehicles in compliance with security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security and transportation procedures, ensuring safe and timely transport of passengers and goods.
  • Maintaining accurate vehicle logs, including daily mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance records.
  • Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on assigned vehicles, and coordinating major repairs as needed.
  • Keeping a detailed inventory of spare parts and conducting monthly checks.
  • Preparing daily log sheets and monthly reports summarizing vehicle usage statistics.
  • Ensuring that vehicles are used only for official business and maintaining confidentiality in all discussions.
  • Taking necessary precautions to mitigate security risks to IOM officials and property.
  • Compiling data related to vehicle mileage and usage for monitoring purposes.
  • Delivering documents, couriers, and medical supplies as required. 1
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid Class six (6) driver’s license and have a thorough understanding of driving rules and regulations. A minimum of three years of driving experience with a proven safety record is required. Candidates should also demonstrate skills in minor vehicle repairs and have a flexible approach to working hours, including weekends. Knowledge of UN Security protocols and experience with radio equipment operations are advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Word and Excel, is essential for reporting and documentation purposes.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a completed secondary school diploma or a Bachelor’s degree. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary skills for effective communication and documentation.

Experience:
The position requires at least three years of relevant driving experience, with a strong emphasis on safety and familiarity with the local area. Candidates should have a good driving record and be capable of handling minor vehicle repairs. Experience in a similar role, particularly within an international organization or in a humanitarian context, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in Tok Pisin and English is mandatory for this position. IOM's official languages also include French and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be considered an advantage during the selection process. Language skills will be evaluated through written and/or oral assessments as part of the recruitment process.
