Job Overview:
The Information Systems Assistant position is integral to the Infrastructure Team within the Information Systems Section of the United Nations. The incumbent will report directly to the Team Lead and will be responsible for providing comprehensive support for computer information systems, databases, and applications. This role involves complex troubleshooting for various applications, particularly focusing on Azure and M365 applications, as well as Unix/Linux systems. The assistant will participate in the development, programming, testing, debugging, and implementation of new computer application systems, ensuring adherence to UN established standards for IT technologies and tools. The position requires a proactive approach to managing and monitoring application systems, producing technical documentation, and refining operational procedures. The assistant will also lead projects related to the planning, specification, design, and maintenance of computer application systems, collaborating closely with users to define requirements and build prototypes. This role demands a commitment to continuous learning and adaptation to new technologies, as well as the ability to provide guidance and training to junior staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Information Systems Assistant will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing support for computer information systems, databases, and applications, performing complex troubleshooting as needed.
  • Supporting and troubleshooting Azure and M365 applications, as well as Unix/Linux systems.
  • Participating in the development, programming, testing, debugging, and implementation of new computer application systems releases and functionalities.
  • Designing and developing computer application systems using multiple programming languages and UN standards.
  • Installing software and hardware for computer application systems according to specifications and monitoring applications using appropriate tools.
  • Managing and maintaining technical documentation for computer application systems, ensuring compliance with change management procedures.
  • Assisting in the development of support and operations procedures for computer applications systems.
  • Leading projects related to the planning, design, development, and maintenance of computer application systems.
  • Conducting feasibility studies and systems analysis for improvements and new systems. 1
  • Identifying user needs and conducting business process analysis. 1
  • Providing support on security and data backup matters. 1
  • Drafting correspondence and preparing reports for information sharing and decision-making. 1
  • Keeping abreast of developments in the field and proposing new technologies. 1
  • Providing guidance and training to new/junior staff and supervising their work as required. 1
  • Assisting with data collection, analysis, and presentation for various purposes. 1
  • Updating information materials such as web pages or brochures. 1

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, they should have a strong background in information systems analysis and programming, cloud systems, and application administration. A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is required, with at least 5 years in managing and supporting users within a financial institution. Candidates should also have hands-on experience in deploying and managing M365 applications, including SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive, as well as experience in security assessments and Microsoft Defender. Familiarity with project management methodologies and cloud-based service management tools is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. While no specific higher education qualifications are mentioned, candidates with additional certifications or degrees in information technology, computer science, or related fields may have an advantage in the selection process.

Experience:
The position requires a substantial level of experience, specifically 10 years in information systems analysis, programming, and application maintenance. Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in managing users within a financial institution and hands-on experience with M365 applications. Languages:
English is the mandatory working language for this position, with a required proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
