Job Overview: The consultancy position is aimed at identifying and analyzing existing national data sources that can be utilized to develop a pilot list of core gender-sensitive climate change indicators. The consultant will work closely with the Data Analytics, Statistics and Intelligence Section of UNEP's Office of Science, which is responsible for the collection, analysis, and presentation of environmental data. The specific focus of this consultancy is to map and analyze data sources linking climate change, disasters, and gender, using established frameworks and guidelines. This work is part of a broader project funded by the UN Development Account, which seeks to enhance the capacity of countries to produce relevant climate change statistics while considering gender perspectives. The consultant will be expected to collaborate with national stakeholders, including the Department of Statistics in Jordan, to ensure comprehensive data mapping and analysis.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for conducting a thorough mapping and analysis of national data sources related to climate change and gender. This includes identifying traditional and non-traditional data sources such as censuses, statistical surveys, administrative records, geospatial data, and citizen-generated data. The consultant must engage in effective communication with national focal points and relevant ministries, ensuring collaboration with various stakeholders, including NGOs and experts in the field. The mapping process should utilize established frameworks such as the Global Set of Climate Change Statistics and Indicators and the Minimum Set of Gender Indicators. The consultant will also be expected to apply innovative methods and tools to enhance the mapping results and ensure that the analysis is comprehensive and actionable.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as economics, statistics, sociology, environmental sciences, agriculture sciences, gender studies, data science, information science, or business administration. A master's degree in a related field is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should have at least two years of technical experience working with national statistics and data. This requirement can be reduced by two years for candidates with a master's degree. Experience in environment, climate change, disaster-related, or gender statistics is essential, along with a background in working with national statistical offices on data collection and reporting. Experience in preparing national plans, policies, or strategies is also desirable.

Knowledge of French is also beneficial but not mandatory.
