Job Overview: The consultancy position is focused on identifying and analyzing existing national data sources that can be utilized to develop a pilot list of core gender-sensitive climate change indicators. The consultant will work closely with the Data Analytics, Statistics and Intelligence Section of UNEP's Office of Science, which is responsible for the collection, analysis, and presentation of environmental data. The role involves mapping and analyzing data sources related to climate change, disasters, and gender, using established frameworks and guidelines. The consultant will collaborate with national statistical offices and relevant stakeholders to ensure comprehensive data collection and analysis, ultimately contributing to better adaptation and mitigation policies that consider gender perspectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for conducting a thorough mapping and analysis of national data sources on climate change and gender. This includes evaluating traditional and non-traditional data sources such as censuses, statistical surveys, administrative records, geospatial data, and citizen-generated data. The consultant must maintain effective communication with the national focal point at the Tanzania National Bureau of Statistics and engage with various ministries and agencies involved in environmental and gender issues. Specific tasks include:
Conducting a detailed mapping of available data sources at the national level.
Analyzing the data in relation to climate change and gender indicators.
Collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the data collected.
Utilizing various methods and tools to enhance the mapping process.
Reporting findings and recommendations based on the analysis conducted.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in economics, statistics, sociology, environmental science, data science, information science, gender studies, or a related field. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should have at least 2 years of technical experience working with national statistics and data, particularly in the context of environment, climate change, disaster-related, or gender statistics. Experience collaborating with national statistical offices on data collection and reporting is also desirable, highlighting the need for strong analytical and communication skills.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this consultancy include a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as economics, statistics, sociology, environmental science, data science, information science, or gender studies. Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of technical experience in working with national statistics and data.
