Job Overview: The consultancy aims to identify and analyze existing national data sources that can be utilized to develop a pilot list of core gender-sensitive climate change indicators. The consultant will conduct mapping and analysis of these data sources, linking climate change, disasters, and gender, using established frameworks such as the Global Set of Climate Change Statistics and Indicators and the Minimum Set of Gender Indicators. The consultant is expected to provide technical expertise to ensure the quality of the mapping and analysis, working closely with the National Institute of Statistics of Cameroon and other stakeholders. This role is crucial for enhancing the capacity of target countries to produce relevant climate change and disaster-related statistics while considering gender perspectives, ultimately contributing to better adaptation and mitigation policies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for mapping and analyzing data sources on climate change and gender at the national level. This includes focusing on available data sources such as censuses, statistical surveys, administrative records, geospatial data, monitoring systems, scientific research, and citizen-generated data. The consultant will assess the quality, reliability, and consistency of the available data, including the frequency of collection and the level of disaggregation. Effective communication skills are essential, as the consultant will collaborate closely with the national focal point in the National Institute of Statistics of Cameroon and engage with relevant ministries, agencies, and NGOs working on gender issues. The final reports produced by the consultant should provide a comprehensive assessment of the data sources and their applicability to the development of gender-sensitive climate change indicators.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, demography, sociology, environmental science, data science, information science, or gender studies. A master’s degree in a related field is highly desirable. Additionally, at least 2 years of technical experience in processing, analyzing, and managing national statistics and data is required. Candidates with a second-level university degree may have the minimum years of relevant experience reduced by two years. Experience in environment, climate change, disaster-related, or gender statistics is essential, along with a background in collaborating with national statistics institutions on data collection and reporting.
