Job Overview: The consultancy aims to review and analyze available environmental data sources and environmental economic accounts relevant to climate change and natural disaster statistics, with a specific focus on gender-relevant variables. The consultant will work on developing a pilot list of core gender-sensitive climate change indicators, which will be informed by internationally agreed statistical frameworks. This role is crucial for enhancing the capacity of selected countries to produce climate change and disaster-related statistics while considering a gender perspective. The consultant will collaborate closely with national stakeholders, including the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), to ensure that the work aligns with national priorities and ongoing initiatives. The position requires a strong analytical background and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders to facilitate data mapping and discussions related to gender-sensitive climate change indicators.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive mapping and analysis of data sources on climate change and gender at the national level. This includes reviewing existing environmental economic accounting frameworks and identifying relevant datasets for climate change and natural disaster statistics. The consultant will assess the potential for integrating gender-related variables into these datasets and identify surveys and administrative records that contain gender-relevant information. The role requires collaboration with national focal points and relevant ministries, as well as contributing technical inputs to national discussions and workshops related to data mapping. The consultant will prepare materials and background analysis for national data mapping workshops organized under the project, ensuring effective communication and coordination with various stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, sociology, environmental science, data science, information science, gender studies, or a related field. A master’s degree in a relevant field is highly desirable. Additionally, at least 2 years of technical experience working with national statistics and data is required. Candidates with a second-level university degree may have the minimum years of relevant experience reduced by two years. Experience in environment, climate change, disaster-related, or gender statistics is essential, along with a background in working with national statistical offices on data collection and reporting.
Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as economics, statistics, sociology, environmental science, data science, information science, or gender studies is required for this position. Knowledge of French is beneficial but not mandatory for this position.
