Job Overview: The Project Coordinator position at IOM involves significant responsibilities in planning, coordinating, implementing, and monitoring project activities aimed at enhancing the resilience of communities affected by climate change in Rwanda. Additionally, the Project Coordinator will organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions, prepare training materials, and participate in delivering capacity-building workshops, responding to complex information requests and inquiries, and maintaining effective liaison with local authorities, partners, and other stakeholders relevant to the project.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Project Coordinator include:
Assisting in the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of project activities related to climate change and disaster risk reduction.
Compiling, summarizing, analyzing, and presenting information/data on specific project topics.
Monitoring budget implementation and proposing adjustments as necessary.
Acting as the focal point for administrative coordination of project implementation, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties.
Drafting status reports and identifying shortfalls in delivery, bringing them to the attention of the supervisor and suggesting corrective measures.
Drafting correspondence on project issues and preparing various forms of documentation, including reports, briefing notes, and statistical tables.
Organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions, and preparing training materials.
Responding to complex information requests and inquiries and maintaining files/records.
Participating in meetings and conferences and maintaining effective liaison with local authorities, partners, and other stakeholders. 1
Monitoring the work of implementing partners and reporting any non-compliance to the supervisor. 1
Providing inputs for the development of Standard Operations Procedures (SOP) and concept papers. 1
Providing guidance/training and assisting in coordinating and monitoring the work of other staff in the unit.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Project Coordinator position include:
A school diploma with six years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience.
At least four years of relevant professional experience in Climate Action or Disaster Risk Reduction project development and implementation, preferably within governmental, inter-governmental, or non-governmental organizations.
At least two years of experience in liaising with governmental counterparts and civil society organizations in Rwanda.
Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and victims of climate-induced disasters.
Prior work experience in coordinating an inter-agency working group is an advantage.
Prior work experience in shelter-related projects is an advantage.
Educational Background: The educational background needed for the Project Coordinator position includes a school diploma with six years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related areas from an accredited academic institution. This educational foundation is essential to understand the complexities of migration and climate change issues.
