Job Overview:
The Senior Communications Officer will serve as the Team Lead for the Adaptation Fund Secretariat’s Communications team, responsible for leading the communications and advocacy functions of the Secretariat. This role involves developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies that align with the Adaptation Fund’s goals, engaging with stakeholders, and managing the Fund’s public image. The officer will report directly to the Head of the Fund and will be integral to the management team, ensuring that the Fund's messaging is coherent and impactful. The position requires a proactive approach to communication, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement, particularly in the context of climate change adaptation efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out a variety of duties, including:
  • Developing and executing communication strategies that encompass internal communications, relationship building, campaign management, media operations, and online marketing.
  • Engaging with the Head of the Fund and other team leads to facilitate content development and clearance processes.
  • Conducting research to identify key external stakeholders and audiences relevant to the Adaptation Fund’s mission.
  • Overseeing a calendar of communications products and ensuring alignment with the Fund’s strategic objectives.
  • Providing editorial guidance for publications and managing the Fund’s online platforms.
  • Developing and implementing advocacy strategies and campaigns, tracking key issues of importance to stakeholders.
  • Engaging in global and regional public policy forums to promote adaptation initiatives.
  • Preparing annual work plans and budgets for the communications team and supervising team members to ensure effective delivery of objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or higher in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field, along with at least eight years of relevant experience. They should demonstrate expertise in strategic communications, particularly in multicultural environments, and possess strong skills in conveying complex information clearly. Experience in digital communications strategies and managing social media channels is essential. Candidates should also have a proven track record of building relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government institutions and civil society organizations, and be adept at managing communications during sensitive situations.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or higher in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field is required. This educational background should be complemented by extensive experience in the field, particularly in roles that involve strategic communication and stakeholder engagement.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of eight years of relevant experience in communications, public relations, or a related field. Candidates should have a strong background in developing and implementing communication strategies, particularly in the context of climate change and development. Experience working in international or multicultural settings is highly desirable, as is a demonstrated ability to manage complex communications projects and lead teams effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with knowledge of French considered an advantage. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages will enhance the candidate's ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and audiences.

This position is a full-time role with a term duration of 2 years. It involves international recruitment, and candidates should be prepared to travel internationally, including to developing countries, to visit projects in the field and attend international meetings.
