Job Overview:
The Senior Integration Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the integration of refugees within the host country. This position involves working closely with various stakeholders, including government authorities, civil society, and refugee community groups, to develop and implement strategies that facilitate the integration process. The incumbent is expected to provide advice and support in the formulation of policies and programs that align with UNHCR's guidelines. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying gaps in integration services and advocating for necessary interventions. The Senior Integration Assistant will also monitor the implementation of integration activities and ensure effective coordination among stakeholders at different levels, thereby contributing to the overall success of refugee integration initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Integration Assistant include:
  • Coordinating with government authorities, NGOs, and local municipalities to support the development and implementation of integration strategies for refugees.
  • Facilitating communication among stakeholders by providing relevant information and enhancing integration services.
  • Contributing to the development of UNHCR's integration strategy at various levels, focusing on promoting government ownership and refugee inclusion in national systems.
  • Identifying key gaps and issues in integration areas that require attention and intervention, and developing referral mechanisms to assist refugees.
  • Conducting context analysis and needs assessments to inform integration strategies.
  • Assisting in capacity-building activities for stakeholders, including organizing training sessions.
  • Establishing and operating integration networks and facilitating cooperation among key providers.
  • Ensuring a consistent approach in integrating resettled refugees and recognized refugees.
  • Performing necessary administrative tasks and ensuring adherence to protection standards. 1
  • Preparing reports on activities and monitoring legal, social, economic, and cultural aspects of refugee integration. 1
  • Identifying and managing risks while seeking opportunities that impact objectives in the area of responsibility. 1
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Senior Integration Assistant position include:
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or 1 year of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Essential experience in establishing integration and social services for refugees.
  • Desirable experience in refugee integration within the country of assignment or other countries.
  • Functional skills in refugee reintegration and local integration, as well as computer literacy are essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a High School Diploma as a minimum, with a Bachelor’s degree or higher being advantageous. Relevant fields of education include Law, International Relations, Social Policy, Human Rights, and Community Development/Social Work. Certifications in these areas are considered essential for the role.

Experience:
The level of experience needed for the Senior Integration Assistant position is at least 2 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma or 1 year of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Candidates should have practical experience in the establishment of integration services for refugees, which is essential for effectively performing the duties of this role.

Languages:
For this position, knowledge of English is mandatory, along with the UN working language of the duty station if it is not English.
