Job Overview:
The Consultant will be responsible for drafting a comprehensive report that analyzes the economic, social, and political situation of Palestinian women from July 2024 to June 202
  • This report will serve as a critical document for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and will be submitted to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in March 202
  • The Consultant will need to integrate feedback from ESCWA and ensure that the report aligns with international frameworks such as the CEDAW and the Beijing Declaration. The role requires a deep understanding of the socio-economic conditions affecting Palestinian women and the ability to propose actionable recommendations for policymakers. The Consultant will also need to highlight the impact of recent events, such as the war on Gaza, on the status of women in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant's primary duties will include drafting the initial report structure, compiling and integrating data from various sources, and amending the report based on feedback from ESCWA. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Conducting thorough research on the socio-economic conditions of Palestinian women, including the impact of the war on Gaza and the West Bank.
  • Analyzing gender-specific challenges and achievements in the context of international frameworks.
  • Collaborating with UN organizations to gather insights and contributions relevant to the report.
  • Submitting the first draft of the report by September 2026, followed by revisions based on feedback.
  • Finalizing the report and preparing an executive summary by November 202
  • Compiling a list of references and ensuring proper documentation of sources used in the report.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Law, Human Rights, Women’s/Gender Studies, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in gender-sensitive research is required, with a strong emphasis on data collection, qualitative analysis, and report writing. Candidates should demonstrate proven knowledge of the socio-economic environment in Palestine and have experience working on gender and equality issues in the Arab region. The ability to meet tight deadlines and produce high-quality work is essential.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in a relevant field such as Development Studies, Social Sciences, Law, Human Rights, or Women’s/Gender Studies is mandatory. Candidates must provide a copy of their educational qualifications as part of the application process. Experience:
The position requires at least 7 years of professional experience in gender-sensitive research. This includes expertise in data collection methods, qualitative data analysis, and the ability to write comprehensive reports. Proven ability to work under tight deadlines is also a critical requirement for this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable, as it is a working language of ESCWA. Fluency is defined as being able to speak, read, write, and understand the language at a high level, while knowledge of a language means being confident in at least two of the four areas (speak, read, write, and understand).
