Job Overview: The consultancy position focuses on identifying and analyzing existing national data sources that can be utilized to develop a pilot list of core gender-sensitive climate change indicators. The consultant will engage in mapping and analyzing national data sources that link climate change, disasters, and gender, using established frameworks and guidelines such as the Global Set of Climate Change Statistics and Indicators and the Minimum Set of Gender Indicators. The role requires collaboration with national focal points and relevant stakeholders to ensure comprehensive data collection and analysis, ultimately contributing to better adaptation and mitigation policies that consider gender perspectives in climate change statistics.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for conducting a thorough mapping and analysis of available national data sources, including censuses, statistical surveys, administrative records, geospatial data, monitoring systems, scientific research, citizen-generated data, and Big Data. This process will involve close collaboration with the national focal point in the Department of Statistics in Jordan and communication with various ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Environment and NGOs focused on gender issues. The consultant must possess strong communication skills to facilitate effective collaboration and ensure the successful completion of the project objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have successfully completed a high school diploma, with supplemental training in relevant fields such as economics, statistics, sociology, environmental sciences, agriculture sciences, gender studies, data science, information science, or business administration. A minimum of 7 years of technical experience working with national statistics and data is required, with a reduction of two years for candidates holding a first-level University degree. Experience in environment, climate change, disaster-related, or gender statistics is essential, along with a background in working with national statistical offices on data collection and reporting. Experience in preparing national plans, policies, or strategies is also desirable.
Educational Background: The position requires a high school diploma as a minimum educational qualification, with additional training in relevant fields such as economics, statistics, sociology, environmental sciences, agriculture sciences, gender studies, data science, information science, or business administration being necessary to enhance the candidate's expertise and effectiveness in the role.
Experience: The consultant must have at least 7 years of technical experience in working with national statistics and data. This requirement is reduced to 5 years for candidates who possess a first-level University degree. Relevant experience in environment, climate change, disaster-related, or gender statistics is mandatory, and familiarity with national statistical offices and data collection/reporting processes is highly desirable. Experience in developing national plans, policies, or strategies will be considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for this consultancy, as it is one of the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additionally, fluency in Arabic (both oral and written) is also required, enabling effective communication with local stakeholders and ensuring the successful execution of the consultancy's objectives.
