Job Overview: The GBV Officer will be an integral part of the global GBV unit based at UNHCR headquarters. This unit plays a crucial role in setting global standards and policies related to gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, risk mitigation, and response. The officer will work closely with various divisions and entities within UNHCR to ensure compliance with GBV policies and to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Duties and Responsibilities: The GBV Officer's duties include implementing UNHCR's global policies and standards related to GBV, supporting the development and monitoring of a multi-year GBV strategy, and ensuring compliance with GBV policies. The officer will provide technical guidance on GBV prevention and response programming, conduct GBV assessments, and facilitate training workshops. Essential qualifications include at least six years of relevant work experience in GBV prevention and response, with a minimum of two years in the field. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of gender equality, empowerment of women and girls, and the application of gender analysis in humanitarian programming. Experience in multi-sectoral responses to GBV and knowledge of GBV prevention theory and strategies are also required. Desirable qualifications include understanding GBV data issues, engagement with GBV interagency humanitarian architecture, and experience in participatory approaches to community mobilization.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in relevant fields such as Human Rights Law, Social Work, Social Sciences, or International Development. Candidates with an undergraduate degree may qualify with additional relevant experience, while those with a doctorate may qualify with less experience. The educational qualifications are critical as they provide the theoretical foundation necessary for understanding and addressing complex issues related to GBV in humanitarian contexts.
