Job Overview: The position of Local Schools Renovation Consultant in the Kashkadarya region of Uzbekistan involves overseeing and facilitating the renovation of local schools. The consultant will be responsible for assessing the current conditions of the schools, identifying renovation needs, and ensuring that the renovation processes align with UNDP standards and local regulations. The consultant will work closely with local authorities, school administrations, and contractors to ensure that the renovations are completed on time and within budget. This role requires a strong understanding of construction processes, project management, and educational infrastructure needs. The consultant will also be expected to provide recommendations for improving the educational environment and ensuring that the renovated facilities meet the needs of students and teachers.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Local Schools Renovation Consultant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Conducting thorough assessments of existing school facilities to determine renovation needs.
Developing detailed renovation plans and timelines in collaboration with local stakeholders.
Coordinating with contractors and suppliers to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to project specifications.
Monitoring the progress of renovation projects and providing regular updates to UNDP and local authorities.
Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and building codes throughout the renovation process.
Facilitating communication between all parties involved in the renovation projects, including school staff, local government, and community members.
Providing training and support to school staff on the use and maintenance of renovated facilities.
Evaluating the impact of renovations on the educational environment and making recommendations for future improvements.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Local Schools Renovation Consultant position must possess a range of qualifications, including:
Proven experience in project management, particularly in construction or renovation projects.
Strong knowledge of educational infrastructure and the specific needs of schools.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in architecture, civil engineering, project management, or a related field is required for this position. Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in project management, specifically in the construction or renovation of educational facilities. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs, particularly in the context of educational development, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the local context in Uzbekistan and previous work in the Kashkadarya region would be a significant asset.
Languages: Fluency in Uzbek and Russian is mandatory for this position, as these are the primary languages used in the region. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with UNDP and international stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the region may be considered an advantage.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of approximately 190 working days, including weekends when applicable, from February to December 202
The consultant will be expected to work full-time during this period. The role is based in the Kashkadarya region of Uzbekistan, and candidates should be prepared to travel within the region as necessary. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and additional benefits may be provided as per UNDP policies.
