Job Overview: The Resettlement & Complementary Pathways Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Third Country Solutions Unit (3CSU) at UNHCR. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about humanitarian work and eager to contribute to the development and maintenance of partnerships that are essential for the success of the Consultations on Resettlement and Complementary Pathways (CRCP). The intern will be involved in various tasks that support the planning and execution of the CRCP main event scheduled for June 202
This includes managing the UNHCR CRCP digital platform, ensuring it is current and effective, and working on smaller projects that align with the larger objectives of the 3CSU. The intern will report directly to the Resettlement and Complementary Pathways Officer, gaining valuable insights into the workings of international protection and resettlement processes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's duties will include attending all pre-CRCP virtual meetings, including working group meetings, and supporting the preparations and follow-up for the CRCP meeting in 202
This will involve taking notes, drafting documents, preparing logistics for the CRCP event, and managing technical requirements for participants. The intern is encouraged to contribute innovative ideas that could enhance the CRCP process, demonstrating an awareness of new developments in resettlement and complementary pathways. Additionally, the intern will liaise with government officials, NGOs, refugees, and civil society as necessary, and collaborate with colleagues within the 3CSU. Other responsibilities include designing and presenting content related to resettlement and complementary pathways for the UNHCR CRCP Digital platform, archiving key content, and performing other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this internship, candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria: they should either be recent graduates who have completed their studies within the last two years or current students enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program at a university or higher education institution accredited by IAU/UNESCO. Additionally, candidates must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant to the work of UNHCR, demonstrating a foundational understanding of humanitarian issues and international protection.
Educational Background: Candidates are expected to possess a university degree or be in the process of obtaining one, ideally in fields related to international relations, social sciences, or humanitarian studies. This educational background will provide the necessary theoretical framework to understand the complexities of resettlement and complementary pathways.
Experience: While prior work experience is not mandatory for this internship, any relevant experience in humanitarian work, advocacy, or international relations will be considered an asset. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner, self-motivated, and eager to develop their skills in a professional setting.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is essential for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within UNHCR. A working knowledge of French is considered an asset but is not mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages may also be beneficial, given the multicultural environment of UNHCR.
