Job Overview:
The Project Manager position at UNHCR Kenya is pivotal in coordinating and managing project activities aimed at enhancing the socioeconomic integration of refugees and host communities. The role involves close collaboration with various stakeholders, including government entities and development partners, to ensure the effective implementation of the Shirika Plan. The Project Manager will oversee project execution, monitor progress against established objectives, and ensure compliance with UNHCR's regulatory framework. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work in a complex political environment, ensuring that project goals align with the broader mission of UNHCR.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Manager will be responsible for a range of duties, including:
  • Coordinating project activities across UNHCR, the Department of Refugee Services (DRS), and GIZ, ensuring smooth implementation and compliance with all requirements.
  • Preparing high-quality project reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Collaborating with Programme and technical teams to develop comprehensive reports and track project progress.
  • Monitoring and documenting lessons learned throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Engaging with the Communications team to produce visibility products that align with contractual obligations.
  • Supporting the preparation of work plans and budgets, ensuring that resources are managed effectively.
  • Promoting operational collaboration with government and development partners to enhance project outcomes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least three years of demonstrated experience in project implementation within complex political environments. Essential skills include managing large programs with multiple stakeholders, building partnerships, and coordinating with bilateral and multilateral donors. Familiarity with displacement and development issues is desirable, as is experience working across the humanitarian-development nexus. The ability to work independently and deliver high-quality results is crucial.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in social sciences, international relations, or a related field. Additional certifications in project management or related areas may be advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience, particularly in supporting project implementation in challenging environments. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing programs that involve multiple stakeholders and navigating complex political landscapes.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the refugee populations in Kenya, is considered an asset.
