Job Overview: The position of Translator involves providing high-quality translations between the Myanmar language (Burmese) and English. The translator will work under the direct supervision of the Language Services Support Section (LSSS) of the Independent Investigative Mechanism on Myanmar. Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities of the Translator include:
Providing accurate translations from the Myanmar language (Burmese) to English and vice versa, as required by the Mechanism.
Ensuring that all translated documents are proofread and free from errors, maintaining high standards of quality and timeliness.
Engaging in periodic discussions with the LSSS about lexicons and other language-related issues to ensure consistency and accuracy in translations.
Performing additional tasks related to the use of the Myanmar language (Burmese) as may be required by the Mechanism.
Respecting security and confidentiality in all aspects of work assignments, particularly given the sensitive nature of the documents being translated.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include a High School Diploma or equivalent. Additionally, candidates must have a minimum of two years of experience translating between the Myanmar language (Burmese) and English. Experience in an international criminal court or accountability mechanism, or in a national court dealing with international crimes, is desirable. Furthermore, experience in translating legal and criminal investigative documents is also considered an asset.
