Job Overview:
The position of Junior Consultant involves supporting the implementation of the EMG’s workplan for 2026-202
  • This includes engaging in activities related to system-wide environmental approaches, communication, and EMG nexus dialogues. The consultant will be responsible for presenting and communicating the EMG’s work to various audiences, conducting online dialogues, and ensuring effective dissemination of information. The role requires a proactive approach to research, data analysis, and the preparation of written documents that will aid in the decision-making processes of the EMG. The consultant will work closely with the head of the EMG Secretariat and will be expected to contribute to the overall mission of promoting environmental sustainability within the UN framework.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Junior Consultant will have a range of specific tasks and responsibilities, including:
  • Providing input across various EMG workstreams as required.
  • Conducting thorough background research and compiling and analyzing relevant data and information.
  • Preparing written documents for review by staff, which may include background documents, meeting summaries, concept notes, and reports.
  • Developing presentations that effectively communicate the EMG’s work and objectives.
  • Organizing and planning meetings, events, and webinars to facilitate discussions and knowledge sharing.
  • Creating communication and awareness-raising content for online publication to enhance the visibility of the EMG’s initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in environmental studies, international relations, sustainable development, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in a relevant field, combined with an additional two years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Proven experience in writing reports, compiling analytical documents, or policy papers is essential. Familiarity with the work of UN agencies on environmental issues is desirable, as is experience working with environmental coordination.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in environmental studies, international relations, sustainable development, or other related subjects. In cases where candidates hold a first-level university degree, they must also have two additional years of qualifying experience to meet the educational requirements.

Experience:
A minimum of one year of experience related to environmental issues and sustainable development at the global or UN system level is required for candidates with an advanced degree. For those with a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of two years of relevant experience is necessary. This experience should include proven capabilities in writing reports and compiling analytical documents, as well as familiarity with environmental coordination efforts.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written English is an absolute requirement for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication and documentation within the role.
