Job Overview:
The Laboratory Technician will play a crucial role in supporting the research and development activities of the Plant Breeding and Genetics Laboratory. This position involves conducting greenhouse and field experiments, as well as performing in vitro plant cell and tissue culture experiments. The technician will be responsible for preparing media and solutions, monitoring plant growth conditions, and maintaining laboratory equipment. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to achieving results in line with the laboratory's objectives. The technician will work closely with the Head of the Laboratory and other team members to ensure the successful execution of experiments and the documentation of results.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and conduct greenhouse and field experiments in support of the laboratory's research and development activities.
  • Conduct routine in vitro plant cell and tissue culture experiments, including the preparation of media and solutions according to established protocols.
  • Monitor and record data related to standard measurements such as plant growth and other parameters under various conditions.
  • Maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment, including pH meters, sterilization equipment, flow benches, and centrifuges.
  • Document and input experimental results into the laboratory database.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the laboratory's objectives.

Required Qualifications:
  • Completed secondary education.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant working experience in a laboratory environment, preferably in an international setting.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is considered an asset.
  • Administrative skills testing to IAEA standards may be required.

Educational Background:
The position requires a completed secondary education, which serves as the foundational educational requirement for the role. Additional qualifications or certifications in laboratory techniques or related fields may enhance a candidate's profile but are not explicitly stated as mandatory.
