Job Overview:
The IC Security Guard position is crucial for ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the Guard Force Management Unit's Security Guard shifts. The role involves reporting all incidents that occur during shifts to the designated Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Compound Security Unit. The Security Guard will be responsible for maintaining physical access control at UNISFA premises, ensuring that all personnel and vehicles are properly checked and that only authorized individuals are allowed entry. The position requires vigilance and a proactive approach to security, as well as the ability to assist visitors and new personnel. The Security Guard will also be tasked with conducting routine patrols and inspections to safeguard UN properties and ensure compliance with security protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the IC Security Guard include:
  • Providing physical access and egress at UNISFA premises and facilities.
  • Conducting thorough checks of vehicles and personnel entering and exiting the premises.
  • Ensuring all personnel and visitors display their ID cards visibly.
  • Preventing unauthorized access to the premises.
  • Conducting inspections of passengers and baggage at designated points.
  • Performing routine foot and vehicle patrols of the UN premises.
  • Assisting newly arrived personnel and visitors.
  • Safeguarding UN properties, particularly warehouses and storage areas.
  • Ensuring proper traffic control and parking of vehicles. 1
  • Maintaining security equipment and reporting any issues immediately. 1
  • Being prepared to provide escort duties when necessary. 1
  • Reporting and registering all incidents during the Tour of Duty (TOD). 1
  • Performing any additional duties assigned by the OIC Safety and Security Section.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates must have at least one year of experience in the UN Security Management System. Additionally, one year of progressive experience with a local, national, or private police, security, or fire brigade organization is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of security protocols and procedures, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory for this position. This educational background ensures that candidates possess the basic knowledge and skills necessary for the role, including the ability to follow instructions and adhere to security protocols.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least one year of relevant experience in security management, particularly within the context of the United Nations or similar organizations. Experience with local or national police forces, security agencies, or fire brigades is also beneficial. This experience should demonstrate a progressive understanding of security operations and the ability to respond effectively to incidents.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the UN. Knowledge of Arabic and Dinka is considered desirable, as it may facilitate better communication with local populations and enhance the effectiveness of security operations.
