Job Overview: The Climate Social MediaIntern will play a crucial role in supporting UNDP's efforts to enhance engagement on climate issues across its global digital platforms. This position involves close collaboration with Communications Specialists in the UNDP Climate Hub, focusing on planning, producing, and publishing social media content that aligns with UNDP's climate messaging and editorial priorities. The intern will assist in developing posts and visual assets, maintaining an active social media presence around key climate moments and campaigns, and contributing to analytics and community engagement to improve visibility and impact. The intern will report to the Social Media Specialist under the Climate Hub and will be involved in various aspects of social media management, including content creation, performance analysis, and community engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will provide support to the UNDP Climate Hub Social Media Specialist in releasing and promoting social media communications products across various digital platforms, including X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube. Responsibilities include drafting, editing, and scheduling social media posts in alignment with UNDP's editorial guidelines and the global climate calendar, ensuring compliance with Climate Hub communications standards. The intern will develop visual content using tools like Canva, support regular analysis and evaluation of social media performance, coordinate with Language Communications Specialists for effective content dissemination in French and Spanish, assist with influencer outreach, and provide community engagement support across platforms. The intern will also track audience sentiment, identify emerging trends, and ensure that social media content adheres to accessibility standards, contributing to the overall quality and consistency of digital communications.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in communications, social media, or media; be enrolled in the final academic year of a second university degree program (minimum Master’s level or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree and must start the internship within one year of graduation. Required skills include sound research abilities, particularly in translating climate-related terminology, experience in communicating climate-related information to diverse audiences, and a proven interest in global issues such as climate change and the work of the United Nations. Technical skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Canva are also necessary.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a background in communications, social media, or media, ideally at the graduate level or equivalent. This includes being enrolled in a graduate program or having recently graduated with a relevant degree. The educational background should reflect a strong understanding of digital communications, particularly in the context of international organizations or non-profit sectors.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have experience in drafting and editing content for websites, social media, and other digital platforms. Familiarity with climate-related issues and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences is essential. Previous experience in digital communications, particularly within international organizations or non-profits, is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Additionally, fluency in other UN languages will be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader audience and contribute to multilingual communications efforts.
Additional Notes: The internship is part-time and offers a monthly stipend that varies depending on the duty location. Interns are responsible for all expenses related to the internship, except for the stipend. They must provide proof of health insurance coverage for the duration of the internship. Interns are not considered staff and are not covered by UN Staff Regulations and Rules.
