Job Overview: The Junior SDG Consultant position is designed to support the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in Saudi Arabia by contributing to policy research, analytical work, and operational tasks that are essential for the UN's engagement in the country. The role offers a unique opportunity for hands-on experience in applied policy analysis and exposure to UN inter-agency coordination processes. The consultant will work closely with the RCO Economist and the Head of Office, providing support in drafting analytical papers, conducting desk reviews, and assisting in the integration of cross-sectoral analysis, including Leave No One Behind (LNOB), gender equality, and inclusivity. The position also involves contributions to innovative analytical tools, particularly the application of large language models (LLMs) for research and knowledge management. This role is crucial for strengthening the RCO’s operational and policy functions and will provide valuable insights into the workings of the UN system.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the direct supervision of the RCO Economist and in coordination with the Head of Office. Key duties include:
Policy and Research Support: Conducting comprehensive desk reviews of UN frameworks, socioeconomic reports, and national strategies relevant to Vision 2030 and the SDGs. Supporting the drafting of analytical papers and policy briefs that focus on the KSA economy, development trends, and thematic UN priorities. Assisting in the integration of cross-sectoral analysis, including LNOB, gender equality, and inclusivity into policy documents.
Operational and Coordination Support: Preparing background notes and collecting data for senior leadership. Providing assistance in ad hoc analytical tasks as requested by the RCO.
Analytical Tools and Innovation: Contributing to exploratory work on the application of large language models (LLMs) for research, knowledge management, and analysis. Supporting the design of templates, matrices, and structured analytical tools that will enhance the RCO's policy work.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in social sciences, economics, public health, law, or a related area. A Master's degree (ongoing) or higher in these fields is desirable. All applicants are required to submit a copy of their educational degree, as incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
