Job Overview:
The Interpreter position involves providing high-quality interpretation services from one of the languages of Myanmar (Burmese, Rohingya, or Rakhine) into English and vice versa. The role is crucial for facilitating communication during meetings, interviews, and other processes related to the work of the IIMM (Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar). The Interpreter will work under the direct supervision of the Front Office and/or the Collection, Analysis and Sharing Section (CASS) of the IIMM. The position is expected to last up to 10 months and requires maintaining strict confidentiality and security of information obtained during the assignment. The Interpreter will also assist in the preparation and conduct of missions by the IIMM, ensuring that all communication is clear and accurate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Interpreter will be responsible for providing simultaneous interpretation in English and one of the Myanmar languages (Burmese, Rohingya, or Rakhine) during various meetings and interviews. This includes interpreting for IIMM staff during missions, ensuring that all parties understand each other clearly. The Interpreter must also maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information and adhere to strict security protocols. Additionally, the role may involve assisting in the preparation of materials for meetings and contributing to the overall effectiveness of the IIMM's operations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. A minimum of one year of experience in interpreting from one of the languages of Myanmar (Burmese, Rohingya, or Rakhine) into English and vice versa is required. Experience in providing interpretation or translation services in support of criminal investigations or related subjects is desirable. Furthermore, experience working in field missions within the United Nations Common System or other international organizations is also considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a High School Diploma or an equivalent qualification. This foundational education is essential for understanding the complexities of language interpretation and the nuances involved in translating between English and the specified Myanmar languages.

Experience:
The position requires at least one year of professional experience in interpreting from one of the languages of Myanmar (Burmese, Rohingya, or Rakhine) into English and vice versa. Candidates with experience in interpretation or translation services related to criminal investigations or similar fields will be preferred. Additionally, experience working in field missions within the United Nations or other international organizations is highly desirable, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational context of the UN.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in one of the languages of Myanmar (Burmese, Rohingya, or Rakhine). This bilingual capability is essential for effective communication and interpretation during meetings and interviews.
