Job Overview:
The Security Radio Operator position is crucial for maintaining effective communication and operational response in security-related incidents within the UN mission. The incumbent will be responsible for collecting and disseminating security information, responding to radio communications, and ensuring that all communications equipment is functional. This role requires a proactive approach to monitoring radio networks and providing timely assistance to UN staff and affiliated organizations. The operator will work closely with the Security Operations Center Supervisor and other security personnel to ensure the safety and security of mission staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Security Radio Operator include:
  • Coordinating with the Security Operations Center (SOC) Operations Officer to disseminate radio communications and information.
  • Alerting the SOC Operation Supervisor or Chief Security Officer (CSO) of serious incidents received via radio.
  • Monitoring and controlling radio networks to ensure proper protocol is followed.
  • Ensuring all communications equipment is operational before duty starts.
  • Receiving, recording, and passing security-related information to supervisory channels.
  • Notifying supervisors of incidents reported via communication networks.
  • Accurately identifying and verifying the location of incidents.
  • Advising radio users to switch to proper channels for non-security matters.
  • Conducting daily radio checks with Security Guards, International Security Officers, and other staff. 1
  • Reporting security incidents to the Security Duty Officer. 1
  • Assisting UN staff and affiliated organizations with security assistance via radio or telephone. 1
  • Maintaining control of spare keys to Mission offices and logging their withdrawal and return. 1
  • Recording and maintaining activities during shifts. 1
  • Keeping an updated list of emergency contact numbers. 1
  • Maintaining telephone numbers and call signs of senior security personnel. 1
  • Reporting damages to equipment and arranging repairs. 1
  • Performing other duties as directed by the Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. Additionally, at least one year of experience in UN Security Radio Operation is mandatory. Experience with local, national, or private police, security, or fire brigade organizations is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work under pressure in a security environment.

Educational Background:
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required for this position. This educational background ensures that candidates possess the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to perform the duties effectively.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least one year of experience in UN Security Radio Operation. Furthermore, experience in a related field such as local, national, or private police, security, or fire brigade organizations is considered an asset. This experience is essential for understanding the operational protocols and procedures necessary for effective communication in security situations.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and oral, is required for this position. Knowledge of Arabic is considered desirable, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of staff and stakeholders in the region.
