Duties and Responsibilities:
The Security Associate will have a range of responsibilities including:
  • Security Risk Management and Planning: Collecting and reporting information related to the safety of UNICEF personnel and assets, assisting in the implementation of the UN Country Security Plan, and developing security documentation such as contingency plans.
  • Safety and Security Services: Monitoring local security situations, providing updates to supervisors, and supporting security activities for UNICEF staff and operations.
  • Security Networking: Establishing and maintaining liaison with government counterparts and local authorities regarding security matters.
  • Knowledge Management and Capacity Building: Coordinating mandatory security training for UNICEF personnel and conducting familiarization sessions for security guards and drivers.
  • Assisting in the provision of security-related training for UNICEF personnel and eligible family members.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed secondary education, supplemented by relevant technical or military courses. A minimum of six years of relevant work experience in a security-related environment is required, with at least three years in a progressively responsible position as a Security Associate in a UN or NGO organization. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field may substitute for three years of experience, while a master's degree may replace an additional two years. Candidates should demonstrate thorough knowledge of the conflict dynamics in Ethiopia, particularly in the Amhara and Benishangul Gumuz regions.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include completion of secondary education, along with relevant technical or military training. University courses in security management, law, or international relations are highly desirable. A bachelor's degree can replace three years of work experience, and a master's degree can replace an additional two years of experience.

Experience:
The position requires at least six years of relevant work experience in a security-related environment, with a minimum of three years in a responsible role as a Security Associate within a UN or NGO context. Candidates should have a strong understanding of security assessments and incident reporting, as well as experience in humanitarian programs related to children and vulnerable populations.

Languages:
