Job Overview:
The Intergovernmental Policy Advisor on macro-economic policy and sustainable development plays a crucial role in integrating gender equality and women's empowerment into global development agendas and intergovernmental processes. This position involves leading UN Women's engagement in policy processes related to the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), providing technical support to Member States, and facilitating multi-stakeholder consultations. The advisor is expected to prepare documentation for UN normative processes, collaborate with various sections on policy advocacy, and ensure that gender perspectives are included in macroeconomic and sustainable development discussions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide substantive support to intergovernmental processes and policy development by preparing position papers and reports for intergovernmental bodies, analyzing debates, and supporting negotiations.
  • Engage strategically with macro-economic and sustainable development stakeholders to advocate for gender perspectives, develop corporate positions, and create tools for UN Women country offices.
  • Monitor trends and provide policy analysis on gender integration in intergovernmental processes, supporting regional and country offices in program development.
  • Contribute to knowledge generation and capacity building by developing strategies for knowledge management and engaging in thematic networks.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in development-related disciplines, gender issues, economics, public policy, law, or other relevant social sciences. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. A program or project certification in this area is advantageous.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in relevant fields is required, with a first-level university degree acceptable if accompanied by additional experience. Certification in project management or related areas is a plus.

Experience:
A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible professional experience in development, with at least seven years directly related to the thematic area of the post. Experience with UN intergovernmental processes and prior work within the UN system or similar organizations is highly desirable.

Languages:
Proficiency in written and oral English is mandatory. Knowledge of another UN working language is desirable, enhancing communication and collaboration in a multilingual environment.
