Job Overview:

The role requires managing security planning, conducting risk assessments, and implementing safety and security services. The officer will also be responsible for programmatic security information analysis and building partnerships within the security network. This position is crucial for maintaining a secure environment for UNICEF operations in Maroua, Cameroon, and requires a proactive approach to security management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct security risk assessments and develop security plans to mitigate risks to personnel and assets.
  • Provide operational support for security services, ensuring compliance with UNICEF security policies and procedures.
  • Analyze security information and provide timely updates to management regarding potential threats.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local security agencies and stakeholders to enhance security measures.
  • Facilitate training and capacity building for staff on security awareness and emergency response protocols.
  • Monitor and report on security incidents and trends in the area, advising on necessary actions.
  • Collaborate with program teams to integrate security considerations into project planning and implementation.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of security equipment and systems at UNICEF premises.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities, including drills and simulations. 1
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to security operations and incidents.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Security Risk Management, International Relations, Conflict Analysis, or a related field. A master's degree in law or another relevant technical field is also acceptable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of security principles and practices, particularly in humanitarian and development contexts. Relevant certifications in security management are considered an asset. Candidates must also exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure and in complex environments.

Educational Background:
A university degree in one of the following fields is required: Security Risk Management, International Relations, Conflict Analysis, Intelligence Analysis, Diplomatic Studies, Conflict and Security, Counter Terrorism, or a master's in law or another relevant technical field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively manage security risks and challenges.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of professional experience in security risk management and/or security analysis is required. Candidates should have relevant experience at the country level, particularly in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts. This experience is crucial for understanding the unique security challenges faced in these environments and for effectively implementing security measures that protect personnel and assets.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset. Proficiency in multiple languages enhances communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders and communities.
