Job Overview: The Youth Specialist position within the Youth Support Services team at 54 reasons is a full-time, maximum term role based in Mount Isa, Queensland, extending through to June 202
This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people, particularly those who lack protective factors such as family, friends, and community support. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a wrap-around service that enables young people to lead safe, healthy, and active lives. The role involves case management support that is collaborative, child-centered, and tailored to meet the individual needs of young people. The Youth Specialist will also work to prevent young people from entering the Youth Justice System by providing culturally responsive services that incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Youth Specialist include:
Providing direct support to young people who are disengaged from protective factors, helping them to lead safe and healthy lives.
Supporting young people at risk of entering the Youth Justice System through proactive engagement and intervention strategies.
Delivering culturally responsive services that integrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into all aspects of program design, delivery, and evaluation.
Conducting case management that is collaborative and child-centered, ensuring that the individual needs of young people are met.
Engaging with families, communities, and other stakeholders to foster a supportive environment for young people.
Documenting and maintaining accurate records of case management activities and outcomes.
Participating in team meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in youth work and child protection.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate skills and experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, as well as those who are disengaged from the school system or in contact with the justice system. A strong understanding of complex intergenerational trauma is essential. Additionally, candidates should possess strong verbal and written communication skills, along with a commitment to child protection and safety. Experience in youth work or case management roles is required, although relevant placements may be considered for recent graduates.
Educational Background: A relevant qualification in social work, youth work, psychology, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates should have a solid understanding of child development, trauma-informed care, and the principles of youth engagement. Ongoing professional development and training opportunities will be provided to support career growth.
Experience: The position requires demonstrated experience in youth work or case management, particularly with vulnerable populations. Candidates should have a proven track record of working effectively with young people who have experienced trauma or are at risk of entering the justice system. Experience in culturally responsive practices is highly desirable, especially in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Languages: While English is the mandatory language for this position, proficiency in Aboriginal languages or other community languages would be considered an asset and beneficial for engaging with diverse young people and their families.

The salary is set at an award rate of Level 4.1, which is $44.58 per hour, along with full salary packaging benefits.
