Job Overview: The position of Driver (HTV) is crucial for the effective operation of WFP's logistics and transportation services. The job holder will be stationed at Port Qasim in Karachi and will report directly to the Logistics Associate Warehouse Port Qasim. The primary responsibility of the driver is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and commodities. This role requires a high level of responsibility and adherence to safety protocols, as the driver will be operating various types of vehicles, including UN Fleet trucks and forklifts. The driver will also be responsible for performing minor vehicle maintenance and ensuring that all vehicles are in good working condition. This position is field-based, emphasizing the importance of reliability and professionalism in delivering WFP's mission in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Driver (HTV) include but are not limited to:
Operating UN Fleet trucks, forklifts, towing trucks, and UN water bowser trucks for warehouse operations.
Reporting any mechanical failures, breakdowns, or damages to the supervisor immediately.
Performing timely minor repairs such as tire changes and greasing as required.
Conducting daily checks and basic maintenance of vehicles and advising when servicing is due.
Driving office light vehicles for delivering and collecting mail, documents, and other items between the main office and warehouse.
Collecting fuel from designated filling stations for warehouse generators.
Maintaining logbooks and vehicle records accurately.
Ensuring all UN vehicles are kept clean and ready for missions.
Delivering and collecting goods, mail, and documents as needed. 1
Maintaining vigilance regarding security situations and reporting any concerns. 1
Submitting monthly fuel consumption reports for assigned vehicles. 1
Providing translation of basic information when required for international staff. 1
Performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) driver’s license and certification to operate assigned vehicles in accordance with local regulations. A strong understanding of driving rules and regulations, as well as knowledge of safety standards and equipment, is essential. The ability to read and interpret vehicle operation manuals and safety instructions is also required. Candidates should demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, and tact in dealing with colleagues and the public.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education. Additionally, formal driver training is necessary, along with a valid HTV driver’s license. All educational documents must be verified and attested by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, and appointment will be contingent upon the submission of HEC-verified degrees.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of work experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. A demonstrated safe driving record is essential, along with experience in operating a variety of vehicles, including vans and trucks. Experience in defensive driving is highly desirable, as is familiarity with local roads and security issues.
Languages: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Urdu is mandatory. Knowledge of the local language is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local staff and communities.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as a Service Contract for a duration of 6 months, specifically for Pakistan Nationals only.
