Job Overview:
The position of Irrigation Networks – Site Engineer involves overseeing the installation of irrigation networks as part of a national project aimed at improving agricultural productivity and water management in Lebanon. The Site Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the installation processes adhere to the technical specifications and standards set forth in the project documentation. This role requires a strong understanding of irrigation systems, project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including contractors, local authorities, and community members. The Site Engineer will also be expected to monitor progress, report on project milestones, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. The assignment is for a period of six months, with an expectation of 18 working days per month, during which the engineer will be actively involved in the field, providing technical guidance and support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Irrigation Networks – Site Engineer include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting site assessments to evaluate the conditions for irrigation network installation.
  • Collaborating with project managers and other engineers to develop detailed project plans and timelines.
  • Overseeing the installation of irrigation systems, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
  • Monitoring construction activities and providing technical guidance to contractors and laborers.
  • Conducting regular inspections of the work site to ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards.
  • Preparing progress reports and documentation for project stakeholders.
  • Coordinating with local authorities and community representatives to facilitate project implementation.
  • Identifying and resolving any technical issues that arise during the installation process.
  • Ensuring that all materials and equipment used in the project meet the required specifications. 1
  • Participating in project meetings and providing updates on progress and challenges.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in civil engineering or a related field, with specific experience in irrigation systems and agricultural infrastructure. A thorough understanding of construction practices, project management, and relevant regulations is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Proficiency in using engineering software and tools for design and analysis is also required. Additionally, candidates should have excellent communication skills to interact with various stakeholders and present technical information clearly.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, agricultural engineering, or a related field is required for this position. Advanced degrees or certifications in project management or irrigation engineering would be considered an asset. Candidates should also have a solid understanding of environmental sustainability practices related to irrigation and water management.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in civil engineering, with a focus on irrigation systems or agricultural projects. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs in similar roles is highly desirable. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully managing projects from inception to completion, demonstrating the ability to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality results.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable, given the local context of the project. Knowledge of French or other languages may be considered an advantage, particularly in facilitating communication with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of six months. The role is full-time, requiring the Site Engineer to be present on-site for the majority of the working days. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and benefits may include allowances for travel and accommodation as per UNDP policies.
