Job Overview:
The Project Associate position is crucial for supporting the Migration Health Unit of IOM Thailand, particularly in Mae Sot, which is located along the Thailand-Myanmar border. The role involves contributing to health promotion and assistance projects aimed at migrants and crisis-affected populations. The Project Associate will be responsible for coordinating with local government and non-government partners, assisting with field activities, and managing data and reporting tasks. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Migration Health Officer and the Project Coordinator, playing a vital role in the implementation of health-related projects that support migrant communities. This position requires a proactive approach to facilitate effective collaboration among stakeholders and ensure the successful execution of project objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Project Associate include:
  • Coordinating and liaising with local government and non-government stakeholders in migration health, including health authorities, public hospitals, NGOs, and community organizations to support effective collaboration and field implementation.
  • Assisting in managing partnerships by preparing and following up on project agreements, workplans, and deliverables.
  • Supporting health governance and system strengthening activities through stakeholder engagement and consultation processes.
  • Organizing and supporting coordination meetings and technical forums, including scheduling, document preparation, and action point documentation.
  • Assisting with community-level health outreach activities, including mobilization and awareness sessions for migrant populations.
  • Traveling to project implementation areas for monitoring visits and field events.
  • Supporting Disease Surveillance Teams in health activities among migrant communities.
  • Assisting in capacity-building activities for government counterparts and NGOs.
  • Compiling and organizing migration health data for monitoring and reporting. 1
  • Supporting donor reporting by collecting updates and reviewing reports. 1
  • Managing operational and administrative processes, including liaising with various departments and preparing necessary documents. 1
  • Providing informal translation between English and Thai and supporting culturally appropriate community engagement tools. 1
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Project Associate position include:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field (such as public health, nursing, medical technology, community health, environmental health, or other health sciences) from an accredited institution, or a school diploma with five years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in public health project implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Experience working with government partners, NGOs, or community groups in health, migration, or humanitarian settings is a strong asset.
  • Experience in coordination, stakeholder engagement, and community outreach in migrant or border settings is desirable.
  • Experience in policy engagement, system strengthening initiatives, or operational research is an advantage.
  • Experience in supporting coordination platforms, such as working groups or multi-stakeholder meetings.
  • Prior involvement in capacity-building activities, such as organizing trainings or outreach sessions.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field from an accredited academic institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Alternatively, candidates with a school diploma and five years of relevant experience may also be considered. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in health sciences, enabling the candidate to effectively contribute to the health-related projects managed by IOM.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least three years of relevant working experience in public health project implementation, monitoring, and reporting. Experience working with government partners, NGOs, or community groups in health, migration, or humanitarian settings is highly valued. Additionally, candidates should have experience in coordination, stakeholder engagement, and community outreach, particularly in migrant or border settings. Familiarity with policy engagement and system strengthening initiatives will be considered an advantage, as will experience in supporting coordination platforms and capacity-building activities.

Languages:
Fluency in Thai and English (oral and written) is required for this position. IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process. Candidates should be prepared for written and/or oral assessments to demonstrate their language skills.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as a General Service (G-5) role with a monthly salary of THB 68,607.4
  • The appointment is a Special Short-Term Graded Contract for an initial duration of six months, with the possibility of extension. The position is open to Thai nationals only, and candidates must hold a valid residence and work permit for Thailand. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months. The appointment is subject to medical fitness certification and verification of residency and visa requirements.
