Job Overview:
The position of Junior Local Communications Officer and Events Coordinator within CERN's Local Outreach team is designed for individuals who are passionate about engaging the public in science and technology. This role combines communication, editorial work, and event organization, aiming to connect local audiences with CERN's mission and activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for writing engaging content in both French and English for various communication channels, including CERN's websites and newsletters. Additionally, they will contribute to the planning and execution of public events, ensuring that all logistical aspects are managed effectively. Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Junior Local Communications Officer and Events Coordinator, your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Writing clear, engaging, and accessible texts for CERN's websites and newsletters, as well as for local city magazines and other external communication channels.
  • Assisting in the development and coordination of CERN's public events season, ensuring that events are well-organized and effectively promoted.
  • Contributing to the organization of public events at CERN and in the local region, managing logistics, infrastructure, budget follow-up, contracts, guest transportation and accommodation, ticketing, flow control, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, promotion, satisfaction surveys, and data privacy.
  • Collaborating with the Local Outreach team to develop and coordinate special activities during major science and outreach events.
  • Engaging with local audiences to foster interest in science and technology through various outreach initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in fields such as Science Communication or Events Management. A Bachelor's or Master's degree is required, and applicants must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. It is important to note that applicants with a PhD or without a university degree are not eligible for this position. Experience in local communication and event organization is essential, and familiarity with the educational and cultural environment of the Greater Geneva area is considered an advantage.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes either a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Science Communication, Events Management, or a related discipline. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication and event organization within a scientific context.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation. This experience should be relevant to the fields of Science Communication or Events Management, demonstrating the ability to engage diverse audiences and manage events effectively. Previous experience in local communication and event organization will be highly valued, as well as familiarity with content management systems and stage management.

Languages:
Fluency in both spoken and written English and French is mandatory for this position, as the role involves creating content in both languages. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

Additional Notes:
The position is fully onsite and has a contract duration of 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The target start date for this role is April 1, 202
  • The job may require working during nights, Sundays, and official holidays, depending on the needs of the organization. The compensation includes a monthly stipend ranging from 5,266 to 5,793 Swiss Francs, which is tax-free, along with 30 days of paid leave per year and additional benefits such as health insurance coverage and a relocation package.
