Job Overview: The Safeguards Training Officer plays a crucial role within the IAEA's Department of Safeguards, which is responsible for ensuring compliance with international nuclear agreements. Duties and Responsibilities: The Safeguards Training Officer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating safeguards training courses. Key responsibilities include:
Implementing the five key steps of the Systematic Approach to Training for all assigned courses, which involves conducting training needs analysis, designing training courses, developing training materials, implementing training, and evaluating training effectiveness.
Providing training-related information for the preparation of training tasks through Member State Support Programmes (MSSPs) and contributing to the budget planning for the Training Section.
Coordinating and contributing to the preparation, writing, and editing of safeguards reference documents and reports as needed.
Collaborating with technical experts on training-related projects.
Ensuring that all training courses are regularly reviewed and updated to meet the evolving needs of participants and to accommodate different learning styles.
Acting as a technical adviser to safeguards staff and inspectors regarding the implementation of safeguards and the use of relevant equipment and techniques.
Maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations, particularly concerning exposure to radioactive materials, and ensuring medical clearance for occupational exposure.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in a relevant field such as science, physics, engineering, a safeguards-related discipline, education, social sciences, or a related area. Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in a similar field combined with two years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have at least seven years of combined experience in research, industry, and nuclear safeguards, including experience in training implementation and presentation. Knowledge of the Systematic Approach to Training methodology is desirable, and experience in training design will be considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include a Master's Degree in science, physics, engineering, a safeguards-related discipline, education, social sciences, or other related fields. A Bachelor's Degree in a similar area, along with two years of relevant experience, may be accepted as an equivalent qualification. The emphasis is on advanced education that provides a strong foundation in technical and scientific principles relevant to nuclear safeguards and training methodologies.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of relevant experience, which should encompass a combination of research, industrial, and nuclear safeguards experience. Experience in training design and knowledge of the Systematic Approach to Training methodology are highly desirable.
Languages: Excellent oral and written command of English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.
Additional Notes: The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $84,672, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance.
