Job Overview: The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the coordination of various programs and projects aimed at enhancing the economic integration of migrants. This position requires close collaboration with civil society, government entities, private sector partners, and academic institutions. The successful candidate will assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of assigned projects, ensuring that they align with IOM's mandate and strategy. The role involves outreach activities to foster partnerships that enhance employment opportunities for migrants, identifying new project possibilities, and preparing progress reports to facilitate effective communication with the Project Coordinator. The Project Assistant will also undertake site visits and duty travel as necessary to support project implementation and coordination, adapting activities to meet the needs of different operational contexts. Additionally, the role includes supporting capacity-building activities for local stakeholders and managing various administrative tasks related to travel, contracts, and payments.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
Assisting in the coordination with civil society, government, private sector entities, and academic institutions to facilitate program/project development and implementation.
Supporting outreach activities and developing partnerships with private sector partners to enhance employment opportunities for migrants.
Identifying new project possibilities related to the economic integration of migrants, aligning with governmental needs and donor priorities.
Undertaking site visits and duty travel as required for project implementation and coordination.
Supporting the implementation of capacity-building activities for local stakeholders.
Collaborating with national counterparts to plan, organize, and manage logistics for various events and activities.
Performing administrative tasks related to travel, contracts, purchases, and payments.
Completing other work-related tasks as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a University Degree in International Relations, Social Sciences, Law, Economics, or related fields from an accredited university. Additionally, candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant experience in project implementation and management, particularly in vocational training and employability projects. Experience in social and economic integration projects in partnership with government, civil society, UN, or private sector actors is essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with relevant stakeholders, including government counterparts and civil society organizations. Relevant field experience related to migration, refugees, and stateless populations is also required, along with experience in performing administrative tasks and project reporting.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a University Degree in International Relations, Social Sciences, Law, Economics, or related areas from an accredited university. Accreditation must be from institutions listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have received a recognized and quality education relevant to the field of migration and project management.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in implementing vocational training and employability projects. Experience in monitoring social and economic integration projects in collaboration with government, civil society, UN, or private sector actors is crucial. The ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with various stakeholders is essential, as is relevant field experience related to migration and refugee populations. Candidates should also have experience in performing administrative tasks and project reporting, demonstrating their capability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese and English is required for this position, both oral and written. Candidates will be evaluated on their proficiency in these languages during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly IOM's official languages such as French and Spanish, may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse work environment.
