Job Overview:
The Consultant on Sustainable Urban Mobility will provide technical advice and policy support to cities, focusing on sustainable, innovative, and low-carbon mobility solutions. The consultant will work closely with the Urban Basic Services Section and the thematic team on mobility, reporting to the Programme Management Officer, Lead, Urban Mobility. The position requires a proactive approach to addressing urban mobility challenges, which include traffic congestion, pollution, and road traffic accidents, while also contributing to the development of effective transport systems and policies that promote sustainable urban mobility planning, road safety, and climate resilience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant will undertake a variety of duties and responsibilities, including: conducting research on emerging urban mobility issues; developing and delivering capacity-building materials such as guidance notes, training modules, and case studies; providing structured technical and policy advice to partner cities involved in various UN initiatives; contributing to the preparation and review of Mobility Plans in the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia; preparing policy and analytical briefs on urban mobility challenges; and developing high-quality technical inputs for funding proposals focused on sustainable urban mobility and climate-resilient infrastructure. The consultant will also be responsible for engaging with stakeholders to facilitate participatory planning processes and ensuring that the principles of resilience and sustainability are integrated into transport investments.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in fields such as Urban Planning, Urban Design, Transport Planning, Engineering, Geography, Climate Resilience, or a related discipline. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. A minimum of five years of relevant work experience in areas such as Urban Design, Urban Regeneration, Urban Planning, Transport Planning, or Climate Resilience is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of transport planning, urban governance, and sustainable urbanization, along with excellent analytical and communication skills. Previous exposure to cross-cultural environments and knowledge of International Organizations is also desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in relevant fields such as Urban Planning, Urban Design, Transport Planning, Engineering, Geography, or Climate Resilience. Candidates with a first-level university degree may be considered if they have two additional years of qualifying experience. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of urban mobility and the various factors that influence sustainable urban development.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant work experience in fields related to Urban Design, Urban Regeneration, Urban Planning, Transport Planning, or Climate Resilience. Languages:
