Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is a full-time role within the Information Management unit of UNHCR in Maputo, Mozambique. The intern will work under the supervision of the DIMA Coordinator/Officer and will be involved in supporting partners in data management activities. This role is crucial as it contributes to the overall mission of UNHCR to assist persons in need of international protection. The intern will engage in various tasks, including technical support for digitization efforts, development of data collection tools, service mapping, data cleaning, and visualizations. The intern may also be required to assist in registration activities and support the development of data-driven applications using various programming languages and technologies. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in information management within a humanitarian context, while also contributing to the protection and support of vulnerable populations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing technical support to UNHCR partners on digitization efforts, including the development of an Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) mechanism.
  • Assisting in the creation and management of data collection tools.
  • Supporting service mapping, data cleaning, and visualizations for assessments, surveys, and protection monitoring.
  • Assisting with registration activities, including providing technical support for ProGres and on-site assistance to partners.
  • Building and maintaining data-driven applications using MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and server-side technologies such as PHP, Python, R, ASP.NET, and C#.
  • Developing and maintaining dynamic, responsive web applications, integrating APIs to enhance user experiences, with knowledge of JavaScript and CSS.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria to be considered for the internship. They should either be recent graduates who have completed their studies within the last two years or current students enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program at a university or higher education institution accredited by IAU/UNESCO. Additionally, candidates must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant to the work of UNHCR. It is important to note that individuals with direct family ties to UNHCR staff members are not eligible for this internship.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field. Candidates should have a strong academic foundation that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship, particularly in areas related to information management, data analysis, or technology.

Experience:
While specific work experience is not mandatory for this internship, desirable qualifications include experience in web content management, web design, and software development. Familiarity with tools such as ODK, KoBo, PowerBI, and programming languages like HTML and PHP is advantageous. Experience with version control systems like GitHub is also beneficial, as it demonstrates collaborative development skills.

Languages:
The working language of UNHCR offices in Mozambique is English, which is mandatory for this position. Additionally, working knowledge of Portuguese is considered a desirable skill, as it may facilitate communication and collaboration within the local context.

Additional Notes:
This internship is a full-time position with working hours from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Thursday, and from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM on Fridays, totaling 37.5 hours per week. The internship duration is typically six months, with the possibility of extension up to eight months for full-time internships and twelve months for part-time internships. The intern will receive a monthly allowance of 955.67 USD.
