Established in 1957, the IAEA has a mission to enhance global nuclear safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and to foster international cooperation in the field of nuclear science and technology. The organization operates in over 170 countries and has a workforce of approximately 2,500 employees. The IAEA's Major Programme 2 focuses on 'Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection', which encompasses various programs aimed at addressing global challenges such as food security, health, and environmental sustainability.

Job Overview:
The Research Scientist position is integral to the Radiometrics Laboratory within the IAEA's Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications. The role involves coordinating and conducting the processing of numerous marine samples for the analysis of natural and artificial radionuclides. The Research Scientist will contribute to the development of radioanalytical methods and techniques for studying contamination and processes in coastal zones and the open ocean. This position also supports the IAEA's Quality Management and Radiation Safety Programme, and involves collaboration on Coordinated Research and Technical Cooperation Projects. The Research Scientist will be expected to engage in both laboratory work and field studies, applying their expertise to enhance the capacity of Member States in utilizing nuclear and isotopic techniques for environmental assessments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Research Scientist will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: assisting in the development and implementation of radioanalytical techniques; participating in radioanalytical work on environmental, reference material, and proficiency test samples; implementing tracer methods in studies of oceanographic processes and marine pollution; providing input on physical/chemical oceanography to sampling plans and monitoring projects; planning and participating in research and training cruises; promoting and evaluating Coordinated Research Projects (CRPs); providing scientific and technical support to technical cooperation projects; conducting training for analytical methods for radionuclides; contributing to the maintenance of the laboratory's quality management system; preparing reports; and representing the IAEA in various working groups and meetings.
